"Famous Potatoes" License Plates
The story of how "Famous Potatoes" came to be on Idaho License Plates.
- 1928 plate, 1st one to have a graphic shape on a plate anywhere in the USA (See Idaho DMV for info)
- 1948-1949 a baked potato decal appeared on a silver plate
- Humor-"Famous Potholes" stickers one year.
- Fight with Legislature over specialty plates and desire to drop "Famous potatoes" from the Idaho plates on each car/truck done with centennial plate in 1990.
- Re-introduction of a baked potato plate with red, white and blue design.
- 2006 – Legislature again addresses the logo, other commissions and boards came to the aid of the IPC and the slogan remains on the plates.
