It was a milestone year for RODS Racing and their biggest sponsor, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC). With a generous $50,000 donation from the IPC, RODS Racing was able to double the size of its team to more than 100 athletes who have each pledged to raise $1,000 to help find homes in the United States for orphaned children with Down syndrome.

Thousands gathered in the streets of Boise, Nampa, Kuna and Idaho City over Memorial Day weekend as the first-ever Exergy Tour welcomed the world’s top women cyclists to scenic Idaho to compete at the highest level. The U.S. Senators from Idaho, James E. Risch and Mike Crapo, today joined the President and CEO of the IPC, Frank Muir, to welcome the Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck when it rolled into Washington, D.C. for a special appearance in front of the the U.S. Capitol Building. With fuel costs top of mind among most consumers, an Ohio supermarket showcased Idaho’s famous spuds as a personal power source in its top-winning entry for the Idaho Potato Commission’s (IPC) 2012 retail display contest. This year’s contest awarded more than $150,000 in cash and prizes, including $1,500 to Marysville, Ohio-based Community Market for its “Fuel Up with the World Famous Idaho® Potatoes” display.

After months of much anticipation and fanfare, the Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck officially set off on its seven-month cross-country journey following a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Idaho Governor C. L. “Butch” Otter in front of the Idaho Capitol Building.
